- We strongly recommend that you soften your ear wax with Earol spray, 2 squirts in each ear (optionally with the addition of 2 drops of glycerol), 4 times a day for at least 5 days prior to your appointment. If you want to use cotton wool to hold the oil in, first saturate the cotton wool in petroleum jelly (such as Vaseline), so the cotton wool doesn’t soak up all the Earol. Make sure you squirt the Earol over a sink until you see oil spray out in order to expel any air prior to application.

I attended the clinic well before the appointment time thankfully. I spent 15 minutes in the queue to register my attendance, when I eventually got to speak to the receptionist I explained what I was there for and had to give her my name & DOB, she couldn’t find my details so I was passed on to another receptionist, eventually they realised that I was not registered at the practice, they then asked again what I was there for and realised that I needed to go upstairs for the appointment. so, for 15 minutes I had been standing around when all that was needed was a simple sign saying where to go. Even up the stairs there was no sign saying which door to go through and there were 5 or 6 to choose from.
As far as the appointment went, the nurse Beth was very nice and careful, the only criticism I have is that there was no evidence to show that the ear wax removal was completed fully, whereas at other places that do this procedure, they show you the end result on the camera, also from previous experience it has taken much longer to complete, in this instance it took less than 10 minutes for the two ears so I cannot be sure whether all the wax was removed.

Thank you for your feedback. In our email confirmation, we ask all of our customers to bring their mobile phones with them so that we can call them and meet them in the waiting area to bring them to the room. Beth is an Audiologist with a great deal of microsuction and manual instrument experience, which is why the procedure will often take considerably less than the 25 minutes allocated, especially if the wax has been correctly softened. While a picture of your ear canal is nice to see, it doesn’t make your ear canal and more or less blocked. If your ear canal still had wax in it, Beth would have recommended that you soften the wax further and book another appointment – it is part of our professional ethics obligation of candour.

Not a problem I normally have but was aware one ear was blocked though no hearing loss I was aware of but a kind of shooshing, so though I would see what help was available locally. Was amazed to be offered an appointment the same day and saw Anca who was really reassuring and quick. Am trying to persuade my husband to go to her rather than Specsavers as he has to have his done regularly. A very good service.

After being deaf in my right ear for over 3 weeks due to wax build up I was seen to by Mary Levy who was absolutely a star. Very polite patient and she even checked my left ear for free which she informed me is in perfect order. 5 minutes after the procedure and my hearing was as good as new again. I used to have any ears syringed but after my doctor recommended Jason and micro suction, I have been going to see him every year for the last 3 years. It is a pain free effective way of removing ear wax and I highly recommend Jason, Hearing First and microsuction.

I saw Jason in Welwyn Garden City. He explained the procedure thoroughly was very professional and efficient. My ears were both quite blocked and the process took about 30 minutes in total. I would recommend the service to others who have blocked ears.

Thank you for restoring my hearing. Faye at St Albans was gentle and guided me through the procedure which didn’t take long and suffered little discomfort. Top tip: use the medical olive oil available from pharmacies to soften wax instead of the sodium bicarb or glycerol drops which can form crusts which are harder to remove. Thank you. :)
